SPRING AT BEECH MOUNTAIN
Ever dreamed of endless scenic vistas, lots of outdoor adventure AND fewer visitors? Book a trip to Beech Mountain during the off-season spring months of April and May, and you can have all that and so much more.
Sandwiched between winter’s snows and skiing crowds, and summer’s cool breezes and vacationing families, you’ll experience the natural world as it awakens from a winter’s sleep. The town of Beech Mountain is famed for the abundant wildlife that lives in communion with man here. Spring is the time to see mother deer with their young, trout filling the streams, birds migrating along the NC Birding Trail, and maybe even a shy bear or two.
Be aware that many of our restaurants and attractions in the region are closed or on limited hours while they prepare for the summer rush. This is the perfect opportunity for visitors to experience the mountain peacefully. The town is also perfect for those who want to combine remote work in an inspiring location. There are lodging options for groups of all sizes from condos, chalets, and private homes, to quaint inns & lodges, with budget friendly pricing. Most of these feature full kitchens that counter seasonal dining closures.
Got spring fever? Get outdoors with a wide range of outdoor experiences for all ages. Remember to bring a jacket, since we sometimes have light snows into May! Find two lakes for fishing and many trails with varying difficulty levels for hikers and bikers. Bird watchers will love our designation from The High-Country Audubon Society as a major “hot spot” of abundant bird population.
May is Hike On Month. Stop by the Beech Mountain Visitor Center for the latest updates on giveaways, trail guides and guided hikes. See our Trail Guides to get started.
The Buckeye Lake & Recreation Center is a great hub for all things outdoors for spring, both indoors and outdoors. Find public tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. Kids will love the playground. The lake has trails for walking and hiking. Find great fishing too! Watch for guided wildflower hikes there, and learn about the native plants and spring ephemerals in our forests.
