ABOUT THE TOWN OF BEECH MOUNTAIN
At an elevation of 5,506 feet, Beech Mountain is the highest town in the Eastern USA, which keeps us as the coolest town in North Carolina. Summers, with highs seldom topping 75F, are cool and perfect for fishing, hiking and mountain biking. Each fall, the leaf color show extends for weeks. Winters bring a wonderland for sledding, skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and snowshoeing. Nature lovers will truly enjoy Beech Mountain with our nearly 30-mile network of trails where you can find many unique plants and native wildlife.
Our town is perched in the Blue Ridge Mountains of High Country, near Banner Elk and Boone. We have a full-time population of 550, but that swells up to 10,000 people on busy winter days and 5,000 in the summer. People flock to Beech Mountain in the winter to ski at Beech Mountain Resort and in the summer to take advantage of the mild climate and numerous recreational opportunities. We are a popular location for vacation and second homes for many people from North Carolina to Florida.
