(2.7 miles, easy) Located along the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 296.7, this hike around a picturesque lake offers plenty of scenic views. This loop is mostly flat. Piers along the trail are perfect vantage points to soak in the view and watch wildlife. You may also access the trail at the Boone Fork Overlook (milepost 297.1). Since it’s a popular trail, expect crowds especially on weekends. Go early in the day for a more peaceful walk. Be prepared for muddy sections if it has been rainy. Find a nice picnic area and summer kayak/canoe rentals.
This section of the Blue Ridge Parkway closes frequently during the winter months due to snow. (25 miles from Beech Mtn, 45-minute drive)
