Blue Ridge Parkway

Known as America’s Favorite Drive, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway winds through 469 miles of mountain meadows and seemingly endless vistas. There’s no better way to see the heart of the NC High Country, complete with overlooks, picnic spots, hiking trails and panoramic views, and the Linn Cove Viaduct which hugs the face of Grandfather Mountain.

The 13-mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Grandfather Mountain (US 221) to Blowing Rock (US 321) is one of the most scenic and includes some of the most photographed spots. The US 221 entrance (Parkway Milepost 305, near Grandfather Mountain entrance) is 15 miles from Beech Mountain. Drive north to Milepost 292 to US 321 exit. Stop at Price Lake and Mose Cone Park for great hiking. Via US 321 and NC 105, drive back through Boone for many things to see along the way. The Parkway is open year-round, but often closes during winter due to snow and ice.

Many sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Grandfather Mountain are closed for repairs in 2025 due to Hurricane Helene.
