This small mountain lake has a quarter-mile walking track and trailheads to two popular hiking trails. Located near the Beech Mountain Club facilities off of Lakeledge Road, Lake Coffey is also a neighborhood park for picniking, fishing and playing basketball. The lake is a great place to fish as it is stocked regularly with mountain trout – complete with a fishing pier.
The lake is stocked annually by the Wildlife Resources Commission and designated as delayed harvest trout waters. It receives a large annual infusion of brown, rainbow and brook trout. Fishing licenses are required for anyone over the age of 16 and are available for purchase on Beech Mountain at Fred’s General Mercantile Store.
For hikers, it’s the junction for the scenic Upper Pond Creek Trail and Lower Pond Creek Trail. Lake Coffey is also the home to the free annual Kiddo Fishing Derby.
