High Country Chili Cook Off

January 31st

First annual High Country Chili Cook Off at the Buckeye Recreation Center. The cook off will be divided into individual and business participant catergories and all types of chili are welcome. Entry for participation in the event if free, we just ask that you bring at least 2 gallons of Chili so there is enough for everyone to taste! And remember, this is a community judged chili contest, so may be best chili win!

The event will feature a live bluegrass band and over $300 worth of prizes! Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each catageory. We will also award best "Best Cook's Costume" to those with creative outfits. Winners will be announced at 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon.

Beech Mountain Beest Cycling Time Trail Weekend

May 23-24

An entire weekend of outdoor activity is in store for you whole family. Beech Mountain will persent the Beest Cycling Time Trial, in partnership with Charlotte Health and Fitness, on Saturday afternoon. The race will have a 2pm start followed by a 5:30pm Pasta Dinner (included with registeration, guests just $5 for adults, $3 for children) and a 7pm awards ceremony with over $100 in door prizes. Hosted by Buckeye Recreation Center. Sunday, May 24th will feature group rides, including the legendary "Grizzly" metric Century for advanced cyclists. Sunday events will also include a 10am Group Hike and activities at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Registration for the Time Trial is $25 and is available online at www.CHFMag.com.

A Cool 5 Mile Run

High Country Community Yard Sale

June 20, 2009
Friends and neighbors get together to sell and swap their prized possessions. Booth spaces can be rented from the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce for a fee of $10.00. The Yard Sale will be held in the field across from the Chamber of Commerce next to the Brick Oven Pizzeria. The hours of the yard sale are from 8 am to 1 pm. Sellers must be ready by 7:30 am. Annual Kiddo Fishing Derby

One of Beech Mountain's annual events that is open to all children ages 4 to 12 (children have adult supervision). This event is free and is sponsored by the member businesses that comprise the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce. Prizes and trophies are awarded for boys and girls who catch the first trout, largest trout, heaviest trout, and the first to catch the limit of 4 trout. Just bring your fishing gear and favorite bait. Registration is at 8 am and the derby begins at 9 am. 47th Annual Roasting of the Hog & Fireworks Display

July 4, 2009

One of the High Country's premier Independence Day celebrations. The Town of Beech Mountain , the Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Ski Beech and the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce host this event. After years of perfecting the seasonings and charcoal blends, our carolina pork barbeque and smoked turkey breast is arguably the best in the High Country. Enjoy music while dining outdoors (weather permitting, of course). And at dark, enjoy one of the best fireworks displays in the high country. Serving at 6 pm and fireworks at dark. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce, Fred's General Mercantile, or they may be purchased at the gate. Mile-High Kite Festival

September 6 , 2009
A September(Labor Day weekend) favorite that offers kite enthusiasts the rare chance to fly a kite at a mile above sea level. Richmond Air Force, Wings Across Carolina Kiting and Okra Society Kiting Clubs will be showing there stuff as well.
